| Well, I finally did it. I broke down and did something with my MySpace. I had a friend help me some tho. Anyway, it's ok, but I do still plan to keep this as my main online communication....thing. The photo-hosting is a mixed bag. Having the ability to upload multiple pics at once is great, but having no "slide-show" button or even a "next pic" button sucks. Anyway, my profile is up. Click on the link earlier in the post to go there BTW: all 76 camping pics are up on the Myspace....I only put 26 here on GJ | ||||||

| OK just got back from campin'! Short highlights cuz I'm exhausted: -Camped at Starved Rock State Park -Day 1, Tues: Me, Kevin, and Erik (my campin'/drinkin'/fishin' buddies) arrive at Starved Rock Campsite, pay and set up camp. Tent, clothes line, & pavilion (glorified tarp with tent poles under it). ------Hiking, waterfall meditating, & off-trail hiking (technically illegal, but we are experts...if out-of-shape experts) at Matthiessen State Park ------Night-time: fire, booze, beer, brats and general good times at the campsite. -Day 2, Wed: 7am to 7pm fishing in the Vermilion River in Matthiessen State Park (secret, off-trail spot only legally accessible by water...yeah, not so much on the boat...so...again lots of careful hiking). Water level was WAY above normal, so our luck was not nearly as good is it normally is out there. However, we enjoy the act of fishing every bit as much as actually catching fish, so it was still very enjoyable. ------Night-time: local night-life...good times ;) Then booze, beer, smores, and more general good times back at the campsite. Day 3, Thurs: Packing-up the Campsite & Requisite Starved Rock visit. Home late...technically Friday morning (about 1am) I bought a digital camera finally, so PICS SOON! Also, my cell phone stopped working as of Thursday morning (won't recognize the SIM card for some reason), so if you need me gimme a call on the home phone before 10pm CST or IM me (Yahoo or AIM ) | ||||||||||

| OK, it's getting warmer out, TIME TO GRILL! So as a special treat, I'm gonna give you guys the recipe for Ryan's Famous Sirloin Barbecue Beer Burger! You will need: -1lb of 95% lean Ground Angus Sirloin (makes 4 burgers) -24oz of Beer (thick beers work best; Budweiser, Guinness, etc) -Medium-thick sliced Provolone Cheese -Dijon Mustard -Sourdough Buns -Soft Margarine (or whipped butter) -1/2 of a fresh onion -Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce (if SBR's is not available in your market; any thick dark BBQ sauce will do) -1/4tsp Garlic powder -1/2tsp Black pepper -1/3tsp Lowrie's Seasoning Salt -just a pinch of Rosemary Optional Toppings: -Bacon -Lettuce -Tomato -Pickles/relish -Mayo (or your favorite mayo substitute....except Miracle Whip) Directions: The night before BBQ-ing: 1: Knead the pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, and Lowrie's into the meat. 2: Then let the newly seasoned meat soak overnight in the beer (keep it in the fridge so the meat doesn't go bad). BBQ Day (instructions assume the use of a charcoal grill): 1: Separate the meat into 4 patties (1/4lb each) and knead again for consistency. 2: Slice the onion, and cut the rings in half 3: Prepare grill with a medium amount of charcoal and allow for 15-25min of pre-heating 4: Cover grill with thick foil (shiny side down) and DO NOT PUNCTURE FOIL, curl ends to prevent the escape of liquids. 5: Pour 1-2 ounces of beer into the foil 6: Immediately start to cook burgers, cover grill. 7: When you flip the burgers, put the onions in with the burgers (make sure the onions cook in the beer) 8: After the burgers finish cooking, remove them and IMMEDIATELY top with the cheese 9: Remove the onions (which should have browned, but not burned) and put them in a small container with a very small amount of the beer 10: Butter the Sourdough buns and lightly toast them on the foil (which should still have the beer and burger grease still in it). 11: Put the Burger together with the bun, Dijon Mustard, onions, and BBQ sauce. Also add any of the Optional Toppings at this point 12: ENJOY! ;) | ||||||||||

The Everything TestThere are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)
TAKE THE TEST brought to you by thatsurveysite NOTE: totally stolen from Illishar | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Many, many, years ago, there was a man who owned a small orchard. The man loved his orchard, but there was one errant tree that bothered him. Its thick branches bore no fruit, its leaves were many and littered the ground, and its gnarled trunk was useless for lumber. What's more, it was very old. Its roots were deep and its trunk was broad and dense, which meant that it would be very difficult and expensive to remove. It saddened the man that his perfect orchard was blemished by this twisted useless tree. One day, as the man finished working in his orchard; Confucius, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Lao Tsu (an early "founder" of Taoism), happened to walk by. The man asked each of them what should be done about the tree. Confucius said: This ugly tree is not in harmony with the rest of your orchard or the way of Heaven. It should be removed immediately! Remembering the cost of removing the tree the man was worried. Siddhartha said: It is your orchard that causes your distress. Your desire for it to be perfect has led you astray. If you give up the orchard and shun all desire, your suffering will cease. The man saw the wisdom in the Buddha's teachings, but he loved his orchard and had no interest in leaving his home and possessions. Then Lao Tsu said to him: There is nothing wrong with this tree, you should leave it as it is. The man was puzzled by the Sage's advice. The man asked Lao Tsu: What do you mean "there is nothing wrong with it"? It doesn't bear fruit and it can't be used as lumber; it is useless! The Sage replied: That is because you are trying to force the tree to be something that it is not. You are going against the natural flow of life and it is causing you to suffer. The man stared at Lao Tsu confused. The Sage continued: The tree is not meant to bear fruit or be used for lumber. Look, see how much shade it provides with its thick branches and many leaves? The man replied: Yes it is quite nice to rest there on a hot day after much toil. The Sage continued: And I bet it's thick trunk is wonderful to rest your back against. The man sighed happily: That it is. The Sage continued further: Are its leaves not lovely in Autumn? The man agreed: Yes, yes they are. The Sage asked him: And what do you do with those leaves? The man responded: They make excellent compost for the other trees. Finally, the Sage Lao Tsu asked him: So, do you still believe that the tree is useless and has no place in your beautiful orchard? The man smiled and rested under the tree: No, it is wonderful in its own way and this orchard would be much less beautiful without it. The Sage sat under the tree with him: Yes this is nice just the way it is. When we try to force things to go against their own nature, we cause our own suffering. But, when we appreciate them for what they are and live in accord with the ways of nature, life is full of joy and wonder. Enjoy your tree. Live in harmony. Lao Tsu stood up and stretched. As he walked away, the man thanked the Sage. And from that day on the man lived happily and enjoyed life, always remembering what Lao Tsu had taught him: Life's too short to try to bend the world to your will as Confucius taught; And there is no reason to abandon human nature as the Buddha suggested. Life can be wonderful if you simply choose to enjoy it. | ||||||||||||

| Hey all, sorry I haven't updated lately, I've been very busy. 1. My cell was stolen, that's why you haven't been able to call it. I'm replacing it very soon (like tomorrow). 2. WORK. I took my Best Buy's Home Theater Dept to #1 in the company (out of 810 stores). But I'm struggling to keep us there... 3. I'm a full fledged World of Warcraft addict...in fact I'm installing the expansion right now. 4. Back on the dating scene, a few prospects, just enjoying myself (and NO, I'm not hurting anyone) 5. I've been actively writing again, both on screenplays and on my comic book script 6. My Exec. Producer got out of jail, so we're working on "Surviving the Dead" again. Scriptwriting and location scouting in progress. Casting possibly late summer, hopefully shooting in fall; cross your fingers. Anyone who wants to be involved is welcome, need lots of zombies/victims and I've actually written certain characters for some of you (though there will still be readings/auditions). I will provide, or arrange for, food (always) and lodgings (when necessary). Find a way to contact me if you want in. Call, email, write, IM, or even commenting here will do. Of course, it helps to live in IL, but travelers welcome...partial reimbursement of travel costs can be negotiated for primary characters/crew. Anyone who acts as a utility driver will be given gas money. SO, in closing, I miss youze guys, please contact me...without my cell, I have no-one's phone # | ||||||||||
